Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which explores the representations of females in popular culture narratives. Aiming to dispel the myths that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and other classes of people on the internet. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in political thought and social theory from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while still a student at the university. As of 2009, this ebullient young lady was harassed on the internet for her website that focused on the gender of videogames. She was not deterred by the harassment, in fact it only reinforced her desire to become feminist and media critic. In recognition of the many contributions she has made to feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency, an educational nonprofit that studies the way women are depicted in media narratives.
